Our History

  • Immanuel Community Church was established on August 14, 2016, as sixteen members took vows in covenant membership and received Matthew Delaughter and their pastor as he took pastoral vows. Immanuel Community Church was recognized under the non-profit laws in Louisiana in January 2016.

  • In June of 2015, Matthew and Annie Delaughter, after being assessed and affirmed by Immanuel Baptist Church in Louisville, KY, were sent out to church plant in New Orleans, LA. Their original core team when moving to New Orleans consisted of Ben and Jordan Curtis and Lydia Chipman (Hebert).

  • Early on this core team began having Bible studies at home and in coffee shops, seeking to share the gospel and grow their core team. To build relationships in the community, Matthew began coaching for the Recreation Department and was quickly connected with the youth of Tremé-Lafitte and with some of the leaders at the Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center. Because of these relationships and because of favor in the community, Matthew led the core team of Immanuel to plant in Tremé-Lafitte, near the old Lafitte Projects, presently Providence Community Housing.
  • In June of 2016, Immanuel began hosting worship services on Sunday afternoons at the Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center. During that Summer, the church has about 15 people covenant together as a church. In 2018, Immanuel started gathering at Phillis Wheatley Community School. In the Summer of 2020, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Immanuel started gathering at Gentilly Baptist Church on Sunday afternoons. In that same Summer, Immanuel purchased the former Elysian Fields Baptist Church property to build upon the future. In February 2021, Immanuel sent out the Cunningham family to Nairobi, Kenya. In September 2021, Immanuel sent out the Hanna family, along with a core team, to start Harvest Church in the Tremé-Lafitte neighborhood.

  •  Today, Immanuel Community Church worships in the very location that was bought in 2021.
